Bird Watching in Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve - Muyil

We can meet in Tulum or about 20 minutes south of Tulum in the town of Muyil where we have an excellent opportunity to find a great diversity of birds. Muyil is also the name of an ancient trading post of the Maya in the semi deciduous jungle of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. 

Nowadays it is possible to visit this archaeological site as well as the surrounding area to find birds such as: The Olive-Throated Parakeet, Black-Headed and Gartered Trogons, different species of Woodpeckers and Woodcreepers, beautiful Aracaris and Keel Billed Toucans, Yucatan, Green and Brown Jays, different species of Hummingbirds just to name a few. 

We start with a walk in a small Mayan community with many different types of vegetation to find an incredible diversity of birds. When it starts to get hot we go to the shade of the archaeological site to eat a light breakfast and continue birding through the jungle surrounded by ancient temples and beautiful landscapes. You will be back at your hotel in time for lunch. 

This is a great activity for avid birders as well as for those with an interest in nature, birds and history that want to experience the area in a relax and responsible manner.

OPTIONAL :

There is also the possibility to add to this tour a boat trip across two lagoons to enjoy a lazy river floating experience.  We float sitting on life vests in a truly unique setting, listening to the sounds of nature, among mangroves, orchids & bromeliads. An experience immersed in nature like nothing you have experienced before. 

6:00 a.m. Pick up at hotel/house (earlier if farther from Tulum)

6:30 a.m. Briefing with coffee, fruit and energy bar

7:00 a.m. Begin birding in Mayan community

9:00 a.m. Breakfast (fruit cocktail or eggs, coffee or tea)

9:30 a.m. Continue birding in the Muyil Archaeological Site

10:30 a.m. Walk on boardwalk to get across flooded jungle and come out onto a lagoon

11:00 a.m. Option to take boat across two lagoons and float in lazy river (finish the tour at 2:00pm with lunch included)

12:00 p.m. End of the excursion

Minimum Participants:

Most of our group tours require a minimum of 4 people to run the tour. If we do not hit this minimum, we reserve the right to cancel the tour, in which case we will contact you to offer an alternative tour or send a refund.

Pick Up Time:

Please be aware that we will communicate your pick up time via a personalized email and it will vary from the automatic pick up time sent by the booking platform as we have to calculate it manually depending on your hotel/airbnb location.

Drop Off Time:

Please be aware that drop off time vary depending on hotel/villas locations and the rythm of each group.

Cancellation Policy:

Each tour should be booked by paying a deposit.

·        In case of cancellation more than 24 hrs before the pickup, we do not charge you any cost and will give you back your deposit.

·        In case of cancellation between 24 and 12 hrs before the pickup México Kan Tours will take your deposit in order to pay for the costs already made.

·        In case of cancellation less than 12 hrs before the pick up or in case of no show we will charge you 100% of the total amount of your tour.

Payments:

Credit card payments have a fee up to 7% depending on Credit Cards. We recommend bringing cash. 
Our prices are in USD. Please be aware that we work with a monthly based exchange rate for Payments in Pesos or Euros.
